The ISRO atlas says around 30% is degraded, but sahib, these maps often mark semi-arid lands as "degraded" when they are just naturally dry! 🌵 From my IAS posting in Rajasthan, I saw such land classified as 'wasteland', but local pastoral communities had sustainably grazed it for generations. This overstatement justifies costly reclamation projects that disrupt traditional livelihoods. Arey, the real issue is not the atlas's percentage, but ignoring the people who already know how to live with that land.
