We call it the snout, the *mukh*. They measure with stakes and lasers from year to year, seeing how far it has retreated up the valley. But I have my own markers. The small lake below Changme’s peak, which was just a melt-puddle when my father guided here, is now a deep, threatening blue. Every season, the path to the old ice-cave grows longer and more dangerous. These are the measurements that matter to us.
