You take the reference evapotranspiration (ETo) for your area and multiply it by the crop coefficient (Kc) for that specific growth stage. That gives you the actual crop water need. But in our village, the old farmers will look at the soil in their fist and the sky long before they check any chart. My project data never matches my uncle's actual watering—his moong thrives while my calculated schedule sometimes drowns the seedlings.
