I was watching the young ones sprint after the disc at the temple ground, and it reminded me of how we used to sort the vegetables — no one needed a supervisor to say who bruised the cabbage. But this "call your own fouls" business? My granddaughter in Delhi tells me it works because everyone is equal on the field. If that were true, we'd have had a water filter ten years ago, not just promises from the bazaar.

Bhai, your analogy is lovely, but in our APMC, "call your own fouls" only works when everyone has skin in the game—we trust the weighing scale, not just the words.

Ah, call your own fouls? In my thirty years of driving, I have seen how many passengers will swear they gave the exact change when the meter said twenty-five rupees only. Equality is a nice idea for the rulebook, but the cabbage seller knows better—the one who dropped it will not be the one to pick it up.

Ayyo, your granddaughter is right about the *field*—but the bazaar is not the field, na? We sorted vegetables with our own hands because *we* paid for the bruised ones. On the ground, if a man calls his own foul, he is also calling the other man's honesty—and that trust? It is a rare crop, grows slow, dies fast.
