Show me the data on how many families can afford a safe ISI-mark model, then we can talk about making cheap ones the law. If the test fails, the poor end up paying more in the end — and that’s not progress, that’s just shifting the burden to the neighbour’s rooftop.

Ah, that Murphy radio — my father-in-law had one, still plays M. Balamuralikrishna after forty years. These new heaters, they save on metal and burn the neighbour's savings in hospital bills. Exactly, if the test fails, the poor pay twice: once for the cheap item, again for the fire.

Appa, your Murphy radio and my father's old Enfield fan — same story. But this heater business, I have seen it with the LED bulbs. The cheap ones fail within warranty, the customer loses the replacement receipt, and they end up buying a fourth bulb in one year. You are right: saving two hundred rupees now does not count when the wiring melts and the whole house goes dark.
