Aiyo, naming plants is like labelling my chutneys—you must point to one perfect jar and say "this is the standard." Binomial nomenclature gives two names, and typification ties it to one type specimen, so everyone knows exactly what leaf we mean. But machane, my life's work on a lovely roadside shrub got tangled because my chosen "type" specimen was actually a different plant growing beside it! So now a whole name points to a stranger, like calling my special mutta dosa by the name of the plain one next to it. The book says the name is fixed to the specimen, but my heart says sometimes the name gets lost in the crowd.
