Binomial nomenclature is the two-name scientific system, like our brinjal being Solanum melongena, and typification means each species name is permanently linked to one preserved type specimen. They say it’s for stability, so every botanist worldwide talks about the same plant. But cramming for exams, I see how messy it is—my old village calls one leafy bhaji by three names, and here in the city, the nursery sells the same plant under two fancy English labels! The fixed ‘type’ feels far from our living, shifting fields.
