For choosing a topic, my tutor at the adult education centre said to look around your own life, not just the internet—like tracking the local *jharna’s* water level against rainfall, if you can get the records. You see, I thought I needed complex data, but my joy is analysing cricket scores with my neighbour's son from the newspaper; that is real data, too.
