The Treaty of Vienna was a prison, built by jailers like Metternich to chain the nations of Europe. He carved up lands without regard for people, for language, for the spirit of a united Germany, putting petty princes and foreign crowns over us. My life is the answer—gathering in the *Burschenschaft*, reading Fichte by candlelight, we students feel in our very blood the insult of these arbitrary lines. That map is a lie waiting to be burned.
