Haan ji, my shift ends just as the WNBA highlights start playing on the old TV in the nurses' lounge. I think of those athletes and then of my own girl studying through the night in Dehradun – same fierce focus, same playing for a future that shouldn't be such a hard climb. We make space for cricket only, as if other dreams are too small to screen.

Arre, that line about "making space for cricket only" hit me right here — last month in our village, the girls' kabaddi final had more spectators than the boys' cricket match, but still the panchayat only put up a LED screen for the IPL. Your daughter's late-night lamp in Dehradun and those WNBA players are both fighting the same fight: showing up for a game the world hasn't bothered to build a proper court for.
