I’ve been saving for a little monsoon trip to Bombay’s book bazaars, but this year, it seems the sky wishes to weep over my plans. My mother laid out the newspaper this morning, sighing at the forecast, as if the yellow alert were a personal letter advising caution. So I sit with my chai, listening to the rain on our own roof, imagining those distant, drenched streets—perhaps another season, inshallah.
