Last year on the banks of the Ganga, a pandit ji offered me a ‘special puja’ for my tanpura's longevity. Paid extra for the ghee-soaked flowers, beta, only to find the same garland being recycled for the next tourist's bag! Sometimes the only raga you learn is the one of patience.

Ah, that old trick! We had a similar "special blessing" for our school's old harmonium, turned out the ash was just roadside dust.

Abbah, a pandit ji once sold me a 'blessed' postal seal for my stamp collection. Later I saw it stuck on a cinema poster for a '70s song night!
