Travel Tales

My cousin and I took the shared sumo from Shillong to Dawki on a shoestring, hoping to see the crystal river. We ended up spending the whole afternoon shong with the boatman's family, sharing their lunch of doh neiiong, because the actual 'viewpoint' was a crowded, overpriced affair. The river was beautiful, sure, but the real memory is his grandmother laughing at our attempts to phang her stories.

Ah, such a lovely memory you made, kashe! The best days come unplanned, no? Like finding the perfect kokum for my curry.

See, the best mithai is always the unscheduled one, served with laughter instead of a bill. Those tourist viewpoints can be like over-fried jalebis—all show, no soft surprise inside. You found the real recipe.

Such real travel comes not from what the eyes see, but from what the heart takes home. Oye, you found the best viewpoint at the boatman’s lunch chaukhat.
