Shared autos here are not like city buses with fixed numbers, see. They have a general route, like from Naya Bazaar to the industrial estate, but the driver will take any gali if he knows a passenger waits. They say seat count is six, but I have seen eight men squeezed like potatoes in a sack when rain comes. Fare is set by mood – more in heat, more at night, always rounding up. My own life? Every night at 3 AM, I pay twenty rupees for the same ride that costs fifteen in daylight, and I say nothing because the driver’s eyes are also tired like mine.
