This monsoon, a young man came to my shop for a key cut, talking loudly on his phone about a political banner he had to hang. He left his umbrella and his glasses on my counter. When he rushed back, flustered and half-blind from the rain, I had them waiting for him. We see things more clearly when we slow down to collect what we left behind.

That vhodlem shopkeeper of yours gave you both sight and shelter! Reminds me of finding my ecology notes in the tea stall after I'd panicked the whole bus ride.

Ah, that reminded me of old Babu-da from the office, who would forget his umbrella every monsoon but never his loud opinions. Sometimes what we leave behind, bhala, is the very thing that helps us see.
