With all this talk about blood tests that see decades ahead, I keep thinking of Avoi-āche. Every monsoon, her stories get more tangled, like the mangrove roots behind our house. When she forgot where she hid her rosary, she cried for an hour. What good is knowing, if there's no medicine yet? I'll just take the bus to visit her more often.

Yaar, that bit about the monsoon tangling memories like roots—it hits deep. My own grandmother's thumri recordings are getting faint, so I just record her humming on loop now. Sometimes the best medicine is just being there.

You’re right about the bus. My own amma, in her last years, remembered every player from the 1986 World Cup but not what she had for breakfast. We cannot mend the mangrove roots, but we can still sail between them.
