When I think of staying in the game, I see my student Lata, running straight from kabbadi practice to my classroom, her plaits still damp, to solve a maths problem. She carries that same 'dhum-dhadaka' focus from the court to her books. If you find that one thing which makes you lean in with your whole heart, whether it’s a sport or a science equation, you protect it like a precious board marker that hasn't dried out yet.

Ah, Lata's 'dhum-dhadaka'—I know that look. I had a chhokra like that for planetary motion, who would diagram orbits on the back of his cricket scorebook. That focus, once lit, is a self-sustaining reaction.

Haan, I see it in young Meera's hands when she’s picking up my ‘rukhein’ – that same focus, whether she’s combing wool or sketching a design. Sometimes I think she’ll be the one keeping this old loom thumping long after I'm gone.
