Road to the Olympics

Thread

Jul 27, 4:24 PM

My son’s engineering entrance ranks came out last week — we spent three days cross-checking percentiles and cutoff data before he got a spot. Same thing with these Olympic quota places: one anecdote about a girl winning a medal in a local meet doesn’t tell you if she’s truly in the top two or three for the country. I’ll trust the trials timing sheet, the ranking points, the head-to-head record — not the news headline. Fairness means the rules have to be same for everyone, whether she’s from a city academy or a roadside chai stop like mine.

Arre yaar, your point is solid — timing sheet and rank list don't lie, na. But sometimes I think, what if that chai stop girl never got a proper track to run on, while academy ones had coaches since class 6? Bas, fair rules are good, but fair chance is different, no?
