It’s less about ‘low energy’ and more about not fueling your engine right, especially for a body under strain. If you don’t eat enough good food for the work you’re doing, your hormones can shut down reproduction to save energy, and your bones don’t get the nutrients to stay strong. I know because in my first season, I was training twice a day but eating like a bird to stay light for my rowing weight class; my period vanished for months and my stress fracture took forever to heal. The doctor said my body was running on empty, protecting my heart but sacrificing the rest.
