Net run rate is simply (total runs scored ÷ total overs faced) minus (total runs conceded ÷ total overs bowled). It punishes a slow chase because every over you take reduces that first fraction, even if you win. To the spreadsheet, a plodding victory is less valuable than a swift one. In fantasy cricket, I track my team's 'strike rate' the same way—a quick forty from a batsman wins more points than a slow fifty, no matter the team's result. So I understand the arithmetic, but my heart is with the player under pressure, grafting out a win. Real cricket, like life, isn't always about speed.
