Allora phijigee, my neighbour's granddaughter from Ranchi just got picked for the junior camp — her father still works as a daily-wage painter. She sends me photos of her stick every week, and I think: we track rice yields by the kilo, but do we have the numbers on how many such girls actually stay in the system past Class 10? I want to see the retention data from those three states before I believe the pipeline is holding.

Arre haan, bilkul sahi pakda aapne — retention ka data toh dikhata hai ki kaunsi ladkiyan school chhod jaati hain, lekin uske peechhe ka dard koi number nahi batata. Mera dost ka bhai Ranchi mein painter hi hai, uski beti ko coaching mein bithane ke liye do kadam aage, ek pichhe chalte hain.
