You know, bai, while everyone is debating whether the Mumbai franchise overpaid for that young quick from Haryana, I was sitting on the balcony this evening—chai in hand, my wife correcting papers beside me—and I kept thinking: that extra twenty lakhs they spent could have bought my father two weeks of physio after his knee surgery. Markets work fine, yaar, but I wish we sometimes asked: what is the cost to the one who has the least? Theek hai?

But your point hits home, yaar: my father's old knees click every morning, and I think the same thing when I see those auction numbers flying by.
