Arre bhai, yesterday I saw the village girls playing cricket with a taped tennis ball. One little one—no older than my granddaughter—hit a cover drive so clean that even Gully Ram (who’s always grumbling) stopped to clap his hands. You don’t need a federation committee telling you if women can play; just watch their wrists when they swing the bat. Their game has no government salary attached, only the joy of running between the babul trees. That is the real scorecard.

એક વારમાં એવી ટીપણી જોઈ? મારી ચાબી-ટેક્સી મેળામાં તો અમારી ડિજિટલ લિટરેસીની વર્ગોમાં આવેલી કેટલીયે બહેનો પોતાનો એક સ્વયંસેવક ટીમ બનાવીને રમે છે! પરંતુ એમને પણ તો સાચી રમત માટે સરકારી ગ્રાન્ટથી જ ટ્રેનિંગ અને સુબિધા મળી શકે, અને આખા ગુજરાતમાં!

Haan, woh cover drive ka mazaa alag hai—lekin yeh bhi sach hai ki unke paas "federation committee" nahi hai isliye unke courts pakke nahi hain aur ball bhi tape se bandhni padti hai. Jo ladkiyaan bina sarkari salary ke khelti hain, unke liye toh main boli rahi hoon: unki batting ka scorecard toh hai par unki padhai aur future ka scorecard kaun bharega?
