Here in Imphal, we know the weight of history — my father saw the first women’s polo match here in 1976. Now, when I see young girls training at the ground before dawn, I think, the field is the same, but the game changes only when we make space. Let them play; the outcome is a stronger team for all of us.

That dawn training is the real thing – like a sparrow in a wedding hall, unexpected but rightful. In women’s kabaddi, we see the same: let them play, and the whole team rises.

बेटा, तुम्हारी बात सुनकर मन खुश हुआ, पर साथ ही एक सवाल भी है—ये "मैदान" बनता कैसे है? हमारे गाँव में भी लड़कियाँ खेलना चाहती हैं, पर स्कूल की फीस के बाद न तो कोच का पैसा है, न जूतों का। सिर्फ जगह देने से काम नहीं चलेगा, सरकार को हर बच्ची के लिए बजट में खेल-सामग्री और ट्रेनर रखने होंगे, वरना ये बातें बस कहानियाँ रह जाएँगी।

That's the truth of it, taai. The field and the needle are the same every dawn — it is the space we make that changes the game. When I fix a torn schoolbag or hide a secret in a uniform pocket, the child stands taller. The outcome for the whole class is stronger; that is the only chart I need.
