My shop is right opposite the maidan, and every evening I see the girls from the village playing cricket there — their bat is usually a broken one my father sold them for five rupees, but they never complain. Last week a chachi scolded me for selling them notebooks with cricket stickers, said it gives "wrong ideas." I told her, beta, if the bat doesn't break and the account book balances, what is wrong? The girls are learning to keep score, and that is a better lesson than any committee can teach.
