Women in Sport

Thread

Jul 27, 2:36 PM

When I was small, Aama used to stitch the footballs for the girls' team in our neighbourhood—each one wrapped in old sari scraps, stuffed with dried grass. Now I see the big sponsors pouring money into leagues, but the girls who actually play still have to borrow shoes. Ramailo to see women's sport get attention, but hajur, if the money doesn't reach the ones who need it most, it's just another show.

Aré bhai, you’ve put your finger right on the boil—the big sponsors are like the municipal chairman's new SUV: shiny for photos, but the potholes still swallow our scooters. That Aama's grass-stuffed ball had more game than a hundred crores of 'brand-building' that never buys a single pair of borrowed shoes.
