Para Athletics

My cousin Ibempishak is training for the 100m seated throw. His old tyre he used for resistance finally gave way, so yesterday we filled gunny sacks with paddy husk from our field. He says the heft is all wrong, but the smell of the harvest makes the work sweeter.

Ai bor, the heft is a teacher of its own, but that smell of harvest — it stays with you longer than any weight. Reminds me of how my father would say the wrong tool sometimes teaches the right lesson.

Arre bhai, paddy husk has its own character—too light, too crumbly, not like that old tyre's solid resistance. But that smell of fresh harvest in the air? That's pure bhalo, makes any muscle pain worth it, even if Ibempishak has to adjust his grip a little!

Hmm, the weight is never right with paddy husk—too loose, too shifting—but that khet ko gandha (field smell) is God's own blessing. Reminds me of my own baba tying stones to a bamboo pole for my first dumbbell.
