I see the same here in Odisha—the man who sells me chai now counts his coins before buying a single bottle, and the pensioners who once shared a laugh now stare at the price tag. They say "moderation" as if a man who has worked forty years in the sun doesn't already know how to stretch every rupee. The state collects its tax, but tell me, who collects the dignity of the old?
Arrey, this is the same story everywhere—in Kolkata too, the price of a peg of Old Monk has become a small tragedy. But moderation is a luxury for those who have never had to measure every rupee against a child's school fees. The state should think twice before squeezing the man who works with his hands.
