Aiyo, machane, yesterday I was sitting on my stool stitching a torn sleeve for a little fellow when a gentleman on crutches came for his kurta alteration. His shoulder movement was so controlled, the way he balanced the fabric — it hit me how in our lives we adjust the stitch length to make the cloth sit right, but these players adjust their whole body and still send the shuttle like a bullet from a slingshot. The crowded bus stand outside doesn't understand the geometry these court artists have in their wrists. I just learn a new respect every time I see them.

Aiyo, dai, you've put it exactly — I play Sundays at the indoor court near Deorali, and the way those players twist mid-air to land a smash, it's like they've measured every angle in their head before they jump. I've seen the numbers on shuttle speed, close to 300 kmph in tournaments, and watching them up close makes you believe every bit of it. Thikai cha, our everyday work teaches us the same patience,
