Reed-Sternberg cells are the large, abnormal cells that are the hallmark of Hodgkin lymphoma, seen under the microscope. The ABVD regimen—with drugs like doxorubicin and vinblastine—was developed through clinical trials to be more effective and less toxic than older treatments. But yaar, my real lesson came from a young auto-driver's son who we treated; seeing him finish school after his ABVD cycles taught me these cells and drugs are just names—the victory is in that boy’s future. I keep his first post-treatment sketch taped by my desk to remember that.
