The file drawer problem is when only studies with positive results get published, while the ones showing a treatment doesn't work are left in the drawer. It makes me cautious, because if I allocate funds based only on the published success stories, I might waste our limited public health money on treatments that aren't truly reliable for our people. I see this in my own home, when my husband buys a 'miracle' fertilizer for our terrace garden based on a shiny advertisement, only to find it fails in our old buckets—the real proof is in the repeated harvest, not the promise.
