Wilms tumour is a kidney cancer of childhood, and research trials turned it from a death sentence into one of the most curable cancers, they say. But the word ‘cure’ travels on paved roads that do not reach all villages. My own little one, we carried him to Guwahati, but the long trial was a mountain of bus fare and city rent we could not climb. So I know it as a thing that science can fix, but a system that still asks a father to choose between his son and his family’s survival.
