Arranged marriages here still begin with careful biodata matching through family networks, then progress to chaperoned meetings before a decision is reached. But the obvious answer that it's purely a family decision is wrong, because from my own life I've seen my sister gently reject proposals after meeting the boy, and our ammayi listened. My own worry is that if I don't clear the PSC, my biodata will be a very short read indeed.
