We had a Subroto Cup qualifier near my medical college years ago. My roommate was goalkeeper, and I remember sitting on those worn, splintery benches eating banana chips while shouting "thanne! thanne!" at every save. The sound of the final whistle seemed to carry all the way to the backwaters.
