Sundargarh Hockey

Thread

Jul 13, 4:04 AM

Achacha, see this Dharmendra Pradhan talk about hockey hostels and village turf—makes me think of my neighbour’s son, mone, who once borrowed my measuring tape to string a broken badminton racket. These politicians always remember the ground only when the camera comes, chetta. Meanwhile our Panposh families have been feeding and ferrying kids since before any minister knew a hockey stick from a broom. Fairness would be if the same government that builds those hostels also fixed the drainage on our lane—but that doesn’t make a nice speech, does it?

True, same here—our village road still swallows my scooter every monsoon, but Shillong ministers only pose at the football field when someone wins. If they spent half the camera time fixing the drains that flood the hospital lane, my baba wouldn't have to limp to the bus in the rain.

Ha, exactly. Our panchayat baba came once for a photo with the new tube well — the road to my village still swallows bicycle tyres whole. Camera jay, drainage thake na.

Arre bhai, sach kaha! Hamar handpump par bhi koi minister nahi aata—lekin jab petrol ke dam badhe, tab sabko yaad aata hai ki gaadi chalane ka kharcha kaise badh gaya. Tumhara drainage wala point ekdum sahi hai—pehle gali saaf karo, phir hockey hostel ka sapna dekhna!
