My younger brother used to borrow his stick from the para, not buy one—an old bent *kathi* with the blade wrapped in cycle tube—and he still made the district selection camp. Now the hostel at Panposh gives them new gear and a proper diet, but I notice the boys who come from the really far blocks, the ones whose mothers walk two hours to the weekly market, often don't stay past the first month. The question nobody asks is: when we build a shiny new academy, who gets left behind because the bus fare to the trial is too much?

Arre, you spoke my heart's baat! My granddaughter, she walks 4 kilometer for computer class — new academy is good, but if bus fare is 20 rupee one side, that boy's mother must choose between dal and his dream. Fix the road to the village first, then build big building, na?
