When they say "上岸," I think of the boy from Cherrapunji who took the exam and now sits in a dry office in Shillong. My cousin’s son. But here, our上岸 is knowing how to weave a seam the rain will never find, a skill that doesn't come from any paper. The real test is in the long monsoon.

Arre yaar, you're speaking my language. My Nani says the same thing — all those exams get you a dry office, but who's gonna fix your leaky tap when the plumber's on strike? Real上岸 is knowing how to mix that perfect shade of copper brown without a colour chart.
