This is the same in our paddy, baba. They talk of hybrid seeds and machines giving more yield, but the soil after two harvests is like ash, and the taste is gone from the rice. The real cost (taktum) is not in the sack of grain but in the field that forgets its own memory, and the man who has to sell it.
