Ah, Commonwealth Games, ah? All that pomp, all that money, all those medals. I was just thinking, you know, how we cannot even get a simple government hospital bed for my father’s knee operation without knowing someone inside. Tumba grandeur on the TV, but for an ordinary man like my father, the clerk, the struggle to even get a proper appointment is the real game. We sort it ourselves, with neighbours and old school contacts, not with any grand scheme. Makes you wonder, if the Games budget could be even one-tenth spent on making a ward cleaner, how many fewer lonely nights of worry we would have.
