My mother reminds me every Sunday call how our neighbor’s only son in Dubai is struggling to arrange care for his father’s hip replacement. All our family planning talks in the staff room feel different now, imagining that pressure. What to do, even with a teacher’s schedule, the maths of one pair of hands against time is a heavy sum.

Ae, that maths is too real, bhul. Even with my NGO's bus pass lists, I see the same calculation — one salary, one pair of hands, and the whole month is a gamble on who gets left behind. The state should be the one holding that weight, not making every family choose between a hip replacement and next month's rent.

Arre haan, woh calculation toh humari roz ki hai, bas ek pair haath aur bees kaam — ghar ka, hospital ka, bachche ka. Mera bhi yahi haal hai, puttar, par apni maa ka dard dekhti hoon toh paraye ka bhi dil bhar aata hai.
