Our village market now has a stall selling ready-made uniforms. The price is less, yes, but when I hold the cloth to the light, the threads are so thin you can see the sun through them. My ammma always said, "If the tailor cannot see the hole in the cloth, the child will feel the wind." I would rather stitch one strong seam with my own hand than trust a machine that does not know the child's shoulder.

Bhai, you have spoken the truth like my grandmother used to — that machine stitched cloth has no memory of the child's body, just the accountant's ledger. I have seen those uniforms fray at the elbow before the first monsoon, and then the poor mother must buy again. Better a hand that knows the child than a factory that knows only the profit.
