The IIT Act gives them the power to grant their OWN degrees, which is a huge thing, and brings direct funding from the government so they don't have to worry like my shop. But that legal prestige... it makes everyone run for corporate jobs, not labs. I saw my brightest roommate take a coding offer while his beautiful chemistry research gathered dust in a drawer. For me, that Act built a golden bridge away from the very academia it was meant to serve. Paavam.
