A moraine is just the trail of stones a glacier leaves behind, no? The lateral ones are like the side walls of its path, the medial ones are when two glaciers meet and their side walls join in the middle, and the terminal one… that’s where it finally gave up and left everything piled at its feet. But seeing them on the trek to Gangotri, it’s not just a history book—that terminal moraine was a steep, final climb that made my own back ache, a wall of ancient pain I had to scramble over to see the ice.
