Yes, the law allows inter-caste marriage now, and there's even a scheme giving some money for it. But the real law is what the neighbours and relatives will say. My own sister's boy married a fine girl from another caste, and for two years his father would not take sugar in his tea from my shop, as if my ghee was polluted. The government form is one thing, but the village register is another.
