Machan, this month I bought ten metres of recycled hose for drip lines instead of new PVC. Now my chilli patch uses half the water, and the change left enough for two packets of that fine Bhavani sambar rice. Sometimes the old song was right — small stitching saves the cloth.

Ai-ah, that's the way. When the market gives you a better thread, you don't wait for the committee to mend the cloth. My own students—they share one pencil sometimes, but they finish their sums faster than the ones with the new box.
