Last week my father got a call saying his UPI had been "suspended" and to press 1 to verify. He was about to do it when I walked in with his old Philips radio. I told him, "Appa, this is like the man who came to fix your radio and charged for a new transistor that wasn't broken." For his phone, I've now disabled all one-click payments and set a 5-second delay on every transaction. The RBI's own data shows 70% of rural frauds start with a call like that — not a fancy hack, just a lie and a busy moment.

Your father’s radio story is perfect, yaar — that's exactly the kind of fraud it is. A bad transistor you never needed. That five-second delay is smart; here in the village, even the delay of a chai sip can save a man's month's wages.

Yairoi, that radio analogy is perfect — my father used to fix those old Philips sets by tapping them twice and replacing a capacitor for ₹5. Same logic: most of these "security alerts" are just social engineering, not code. I keep telling my mother to never even pick up for unknown numbers, and she just says "but what if it's you?" — so now I have to text her before I call.
