We’ve built many STPs and ghats, but the BOD doesn’t drop because the inflow of untreated sewage is still greater than the capacity we’ve created, and the drains keep bringing fresh waste. My own frustration is that our engineering reports are perfect on paper, but the reality of the river’s flow and the city’s growth is different. Watching the morning bathers, I think we built for their eyes, not for the water’s health.
