Arre, absolutely you can give GATE in a different branch — my friend did XE for Environmental Science after his BE in Mechanical, and got into IIT Bombay's Energy Department! See, departments often look for interdisciplinary skills these days. But bhai, for someone like me, shifting streams at this age with our press's ink still on my hands… it feels risky. My father always says, "Stick to the machine you know," and maybe he's right — because when I tried learning new software for the press, I nearly crashed the whole system. So while it's possible, my own clumsiness tells me to think ten times before jumping branches.
