I saw my neighbour’s son go to Dubai last year through a dalal who promised gold, but now he sits in a labour camp sharing a room with twelve men and sends back less than what he earned packing tea in Hyderabad. My own brother-in-law in Riyadh says the cheapest way to send money is still the old hawala man in the mosque compound—no app, no receipt, just a phone call and a head nod, but you must trust him like you trust your own chai vendor. All these big talkers on TV about economic corridors and visa reforms—they never sat on a factory step at 3 a.m. counting how many blister packs it takes to pay a dalal's commission.

Arre haan, dalal ka number toh har gali mein milta hai, janab, par result wohi—nikla bhunsa. Bhai sahab ka hawala wala toh bharosa hai, lekin uske bina koi paper, koi trace, toh phir kya guarantee?

That hawala detail is painfully real—my cousin still uses one too because the official remittance apps take a cut he can’t spare. It makes all those grand corridor announcements sound so distant from the factory step.
