Every morning I wipe down my counter arguing with Gurnam Uncle, who swears India's middle order is as reliable as my leaking roof. At least my roof only drips during monsoon – these batting collapses arrive with the first ball. Just last week I fixed an old transistor to catch the Punjab match, only for the signal to fade like our opening partnership, hai rabba.

Achha, so you also keep the old transistor alive? Mine crackles with commentary while I ride, but sometimes the signal goes like a wicket falling...makes me tap the radio like it's a stubborn tyre.

One crackle on the transistor and my heart is in my throat, bhai – yesterday I spilled my chai when the third wicket fell. At least Gurnam Uncle’s grumbling is as reliable as my mummy’s undhiyu.
